Shree Vivekanand Research and Training Institute (VRTI) has an umbrella of activities to improve the socio-economic status of the rural people in the Kutch region. Inspired by the global demand for Kutch handicrafts, VRTI decided to start Shree Vivekanand Gram Udyog Society (VGS) in the year 1988 to provide design and marketing support to the Kucthi handicraft community.

VGS covers the geographic areas of Mandvi, Mundra, Abdassa, Bhuj and Anjar Talukas of Kutch district and supports 250 craftsmen and women directly and indirectly. Almost 90 percent of the craft items are exported.
