Seva Mandir is a voluntary organisation established in 1969 by late Dr. Mohan Singh Mehta. The institution works on community upliftment activities among the rural poor and tribals in Udaipur district of Rajasthan. Extensive depletion of forest reserves coupled with severe droughts have impoverished the natural resource base of the region. Sustenance on agriculture is difficult and not always possible in its semi-arid and rocky conditions. Low levels of literacy, poor access to health service and a high degree of gender inequity further corrode the fragile liveligood base of the people. Seva Mandir’s work strategy is, therefore, centred around natural resource development and management, education, women and child development, health and building people’s associations.
As a part of the rural development activity organisation has given training to women in applique work so that they could have added income source.
