Sana Hastakala, was established in 1989 with the financial and technical support of UNICEF with the objective to meet the marketing requirements of handicraft producers who are mainly women and operating on a very small scale, usually from their homes. Their main aim is to increase the income of neglected hand workers through the revival and preservation of traditional handicraft techniques as well as development of new skills and products ideas. Producers from different parts of Nepal are identified for the generation of fair wages. Earning from sales are used for producers development programs, staff welfare and organizational strengthening. Sana Hastakala provides assistance with project development, training, and direct sales. Financial assistance is provided for small capital goods purchase, raw material purchase, health check up, product development and promotional activities. Goods are brought form different parts of Nepal, from traditional small industries, groups and clubs, cooperatives, projects and from individual homes. At present Sana Hastakala is providing marketing services to more than 100 producer groups and about 1000 crafts person are directly or indirectly benefited. Sana Hastakala is a founding member of Fair Trade Group (FTG) Nepal.
