Orissa Rural and Urban Producers’ Association (ORUPA) was established in 1990 as a federation of artisans registered under the Societies Act, 1860. The federation works for the artisans of rural and urban Orissa by encouraging and helping them to keep the traditional art forms alive and to improve their quality of life by raising their income through promotion and marketing of crafts. ORUPA ensures quality products at reasonable cost for the customers and also safeguards the producers’ interest against exploitation.
ORUPA craft areas
Handloom – Sambalpuri, Maniabandha, Badgagh, Berhampuri and Khurda.
Handicrafts – Terracotta, wood, stone, golden grass, appliqué, patch work, Sabaigrass, horn, cane and bamboo, Dhokra, paper mache, patta chitra, palm leaf engraving, tassar painting, lacquer, brass and bell
metal, sea shell, coir, coconut and betel nut products.
No. of Artisan Groups: 120 groups covering approximately 7500 artisan families.
