The collection consists of objects d’arts collected by the late Siyajirao Gaekwad III the maker of Baroda city.
This is an art museum which opens with the old Baroda room where the majority of the exhibits are family portraits. This room also has old furniture, chandeliers and paintings of the old Durbar hall of Maharaja Khanderao.
The next room is the Ravi Varma room. On display are the paintings and lithographs of the artist.
In the adjoining galleries and rooms Occidental art prodominates. There are marvellous copies of Greek and Roman and European sculptures in marble and bronze and copies of oil paintings by the Renaissance masters.
The ground floor gallery feature Chinese and Japanese bronzes, temple lamps, rock crystal sculptures, enamel work, lacquer and porcelain
The first floor this museum has some interesting period rooms depicting 17-18th Century French furniture.
