The name for several combinations of various piece-goods. Derived from the Javanese tapi, ‘a skirt’ or ‘border’ and Hindi chint ‘chintz’. This term indicates a type of garment, decorated with patterns. Gujarat specialised in these goods and later imitated in other parts of India. Exported to Malay Archipelago.
