A method of colouring small sections of pattern on fabrics after the weaving is completed, by the staining or daubing of dyes, usually of a fugitive nature.

To colour a material with a liquid dye or tint. The term Staining is used in different contexts; when wood is coloured with liquid dye. In textiles Staining is the method of colouring small sections of the fabric after weaving is complete by dabbing with dye. When glass is coloured with liquid transparent dyes it is called stained glass.
