Morees or Muris

One of the categories of staple cotton cloth woven on the Coromandel coast. Usually of superior quality and much in demand in Europe as a substitute for linen cloth. It was also used for making chintz. Muris were blue cloths. Pulicat and Masulipatnam were traditional centres of manufacture but later in the century it was also woven in Madras area. Dimensions usually 9-10 yards long and 1 yard 8 inches wide or 15½ to 16 covads.
