Embossing

The process by which decorations are created in relief on the surface of a material. When the decorations are raised above the surface it is called high relief embossing, when they are sunken below the surface it is called low relief embossing. Embossing is normally done with the help of a metal die that with the use of pressure, heat or both forces the material into the desired pattern. Embossing can be done on materials including paper, card, leather, metal, wood and plastics.
