Sheets of occasionally oxidized German-silver, that has replaced sterling silver is used to make small boxes in Gujarat. The surface of these boxes is lavishly ornamented. Enameling or engraving techniques are used for ornamenting the box. These containers are meant for storing spices or mukhvaas/mouth refreshments.
Sheets of other metals are also used to make elaborate items such as side stools for home interiors.
