Muslin is a cotton fabric that is handwoven on a traditional loom, often with intricate designs and patterns.

The muslin sari has a long history in West Bengal and is considered one of the finest and most luxurious types of saris in India. It was especially popular during the Mughal era, when it was used to make clothing for royalty and the elite. The fabric was so fine that it was said to be able to pass through a ring, hence the name “woven air”.

making a muslin sari is to prepare the yarn. The cotton used for muslin is carefully selected and spun into fine threads, which are then woven together to create a very thin and delicate fabric. The yarn is washed and treated with natural dyes to create the desired colors and patterns.

The weaving process itself is done entirely by hand, with the weaver carefully manipulating the threads on the loom to create the desired design. Muslin saris often feature intricate patterns and designs, such as paisleys, flowers, and geometric shapes.

Once the weaving is complete, the sari is carefully washed and finished to give it a soft, silky texture. The finished sari is then typically embellished with embroidery or beading to add even more beauty and elegance.
