Musical Instruments and Sound Objects of Punjab

Punjab is known for its rich musical heritage, and its musical instruments are an important part of its culture. Some of the most popular musical instruments of Punjab: Tumbi is a single-stringed musical instrument made from wood and leather. It is played with a plectrum and is commonly used to accompany Punjabi folk songs.

Sarangi is a stringed musical instrument, played with a bow, often used in classical and devotional music. It is made of wood and leather.

Algoze is a pair of double-flute musical instruments, commonly played in weddings and other festivities. It is made of bamboo.

Dhadd is a type of percussion instrument made of a wooden cylindrical body and metal tongues, played with small sticks. It is commonly used to accompany Punjabi folk songs and dances.

Chimta is a metal percussion instrument, consisting of a pair of metal tongues attached to a metal ring. It is played by striking the tongues with a pair of small metal rods and is often used to provide rhythmic accompaniment in Punjabi music.

Dhol is a double-headed drum made from hollowed out wood and leather. It is played with two sticks and is an essential instrument in Bhangra music.

Tools used to make these instruments include saws, chisels, hammers, and other woodworking tools, as well as skinning knives and stretching tools for preparing the leather.
