Gono Unnayan Prochesta (People’s Development Efforts) has been working in the rural areas of Bangladesh since shortly after the War of Independence in 1971. Implementing a variety of programmes, GUP has adopted an integrated approach to the socio-economic-cultural development of the community, especially of the disadvantaged poor women, children and men.
Its three main objectives:
To enhance the skills and earning capacities of poor village women through their involvement in productive activities, ultimately leading to the upliftment of their socio-economic-cultural position.
To facilitate the establishment and growth of innovative and profitable types of rural cottage industries in Bangladesh through the co-operative group efforts.
To contribute through the development of traditional designs, towards the cultural revitalisation of economic production in Bangladesh.
