The Thakar Adivasi Kala Angan is dedicated to the revival of puppetry traditions such as Chitragathi, Zaiti or Kal Sutli, Pangul Bael, and shadow puppetry which are specific to Maharashtra. The Kala Angan contains a museum gallery which houses samples of the paintings, traditional leather puppets and wooden puppets used in these performance traditions. It also houses an arena where theatrical performances are conducted for groups of visitors on prior notification of interest. The Kala Angan also organises workshops for artists and students to learn – through practice and research – the various painting styles and theatrical forms of the traditional and tribal art of Pinguli. These workshops are aimed to promote the awareness, revival and contemporary application of the style and creative vocabulary used by the traditional artists.
