“Sargaalaya”- Kerala Arts and Crafts Village is an initiative of the Dept. of Tourism, Govt. of Kerala focused on conserving traditional crafts and upliftment of Artisans.

Managed by the The Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society Ltd. (ULCCS Ltd.) which is a labor cooperative Estd: in 1925 and registered under co-operative societies act. ULCCS has a 85 year history and tops the list of best working Labor Contract Co-operatives in India. ULCCS Ltd. awarded by NCDC as the Best Labor Cooperative in 2008. ULCCS is also an ISO 9001 : 2008 certified Institution.
The main objective of “Sargaalaya” – Kerala Arts & Crafts Village is to increase awareness and knowledge of crafts of India with specific focus on Kerala traditional crafts. In this crafts village traditional artisans showcase skills and products.

The crafts village, just one km off the national highway, with 60 stalls for sale, exhibition and demonstration of craftsmanship. Located on a sprawling 20-acres at Iringal on the shores of the Moorad river near Kozhikode. The venue of this project is also a well known destination, the land of Kunjali Marikar , a celebrated warrior son of Kerala. As the naval chief of then-ruler Samoothiri Raja in the 16th century, Mohammed Kunjali Marikkar resisted the advent of Portuguese.

The village, is a single window showcasing the varied and different Kerala craft traditions.

“Sargaalaya” Kerala Arts & Crafts Village is located 200 meters away from NH 17 [ Kozhikode (Calicut) to Vatakara ] at Iringal.

“Sargaalaya” is also 7kms away from the nearest railway station – Vatakara.
