Not far from Swayambhunath, the National Museum but the art gallery has a fine collection of religious art.

The museum has a rather eccentric collection that includes some moon rock, a number of moth-eaten stuffed animals, a vast number of uniforms and military decorations, swords and guns, and a portrait gallery. The most interesting exhibit is a leather Tibetan cannon.

The gallery displays a number of treasures. There is a superb collection of statues and carvings (stone, wood, bronze, terracotta) – some pieces date to the first century BCE.
