An element with atomic number 28, symbol Ni, atomic weight 58.71, mp 1453ºC, specific gravity 8.9. A heavy whitish metal not known as a pure element until its discovery was announced to the Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1751 by Axel Cronstedt.
