Bronze – leaded

A bronze containing a significant quantity of lead. Many early copper alloys contain some lead due to impurities in the constituent metals. A leaded bronze is an alloy in which the lead has been added deliberately. If the lead content is less than about 1% wt if likely that the content is accidental. The addition of up to about 2% lead can improve the castability of the metal, but in some cases far greater quantities were added other reason.
