The Xorai (pronounced Ho-ra-ee) is one of Assam’s traditional symbols and is held in high regard by the people of Assam. It is an offering tray made of bell metal with a stand at the bottom and sometimes a cover. In Assam, Hajo and Sarthebari are important centres for traditional bell-metal and brass crafts.

The Xorai is primarily used as an offering tray for tamul-pan (betel nuts and betel leaves) to welcome guests or to offer God food and other items at the naamghar (altar). It is also used as a decorative symbol in traditional functions such as during Bihu dances, and as a gift to a person of honour.
