Wrought iron is an iron alloy that contains relatively little carbon. It is a semi-fused iron mass with fibrous slag inclusions that lend it a “texture” resembling wood when engraved or bent. Wrought iron is a durable, malleable, ductile, corrosion-resistant metal that is quickly welded. Wrought iron was the most prevalent form of malleable iron prior to the invention of efficient steelmaking methods.
Today, wrought iron work is practiced widely in Rajasthan. Products such as trays, table accessories, tables, beds, pen stands, baskets, lamp stands, chairs, plate stands, photo frames, table accessories, garden furniture etc are created under this craft-form. Tools such as blower, hammer, grinding machine and welding torch are used for crafting purposes.
