Woollen Druggets of Tamil Nadu

Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are known for the woollen druggets which cater to local and global markets. The druggets are graded in quality depending on the shade of the ground that they are intended to cover: the lighter the ground, the higher the required quality. Both patterned and plain druggets are produced in a wide range of colours.
In the process of weaving a patterned drugget, one colour is woven to the required width, after which it is interlocked with the second colour and then interlocked again without an extra weft. As a result, there is no ‘wrong side’ to the woven drugget.
