Veer Kani/ Wickerwork of Kashmir

Veer Kani or Wickerwork is the craft of making containers made of straws, grass, and leaves. This industry is monopolised in Jammu and Kashmir. Wicker is abundantly produced in the state, making it one of the most important industries.

This craft is practiced mainly for the production of domestic products and manufacturing holders for agricultural produce. Items such as baskets, boxes, lampshades, curtain rings, trays and cycle baskets are produced under this craft. These products are highly useful for storing grains and other agricultural produce during the winter months and summer evenings with rain.
