Symmetric Wood Stringing is of recent origin and is significant in Koyilandi and the surrounding areas of Kozhikode district of Kerala. This craft involves the construction of articles by joining laminated pieces of wood. The strips are cut from slabs of laminated rosewood, softwood and coconut stem with the aid of a table saw machine. These are then strung together with a nylon thread to create mats of various shapes and sizes, coasters and wall hangings.
The patterns created are highly stylized flowers, stripes and oblongs owing to the technique of construction.
