Khari prints are associated with ritual and ceremonial textiles. The picchwais, temple cloths, turban cloths are often seen having this print. Ahmedabad region is the centre of production for khari printing in Gujarat. The process of creating this print involves stamping the khari paste- a mixture of zinc oxide and glue, on which gold or silver powder is sprinkled. The powder sticks itself to the rich paste almost permanently and creates an ornamental look. Owing to the appearance and the material used, khari prints have a unique aura which makes it a symbol of auspiciousness and divinity.
