AN INITIATIVE OF CRAFT REVIVAL TRUST.  Since 1999

The Dongaria Kondh tribe, also known as the Dongria Kondh, is an indigenous tribe located in the Niyamgiri Hills of Odisha, India. The tribe is known for its traditional and vibrant embroidery styles that are used to adorn various clothing items.

The raw materials for Dongaria Kondh embroidery are the base fabric, colored threads, needles, and scissors. The cloth is now bought from the market or local haaths and the threads are purchased, not dyed with natural colors as was done in the past. The embroidery is done by women and girls and the colors used have significant cultural and symbolic meanings for the tribe.
