The Kutch district in Gujarat is well known for its stuffed toys and dolls the women practice the craft as a social activity where they use their time to talk while working together in groups. Animal figures such as elephants, horses and parrots in triangular shape are stuffed and decorated with mirrors, beads and small balls of yarn. Square and circular patterned cloth pieces are crafted with buttonhole stitches. They are then strung together to form vertical hangings. Bells are attached at the end to hold the string down with their weight. During ceremonies and festivals such as Navratri they are hung on the walls of houses to add to the festive spirit.
