AN INITIATIVE OF CRAFT REVIVAL TRUST.  Since 1999

Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, is well known for its cane and bamboo work. Cane and bamboo are the most widely used materials for making furniture and household items that are essential for everyday life. The furniture frame is made from thick bamboo by heating, bending, and joining. Finally, the frame is rounded with thin processed cane known as ‘Gola.’ This practice dates back nearly 50 years.

Approximately 10 to 20 families are involved in the production of cane and bamboo furniture. Other places known for cane and bamboo work include Kanpur and Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Hyderabad, and Allahabad.
