Ajrakh Hand Block – Printing on Textiles of Sind, Pakistan

The Ajrakh process of Block Printing has been an art practised for several centuries in Sind. This traditional craft still remains the most popular in Sind and is apparently the only process least spoiled by modern methods during the past centuries. This process is a long, arduous task involving the use of 27 chemicals and consisting of approximately 16 various steps in methods.

The traditional Ajrakh procss of Block Printing remians the most popular in Sind, the colours generally used on indigenous designs being deep blue, maroon and black. Block printed material in Punjab exhibit vibrant colours on patterns more contemporary.
